Transforming Careers in Mental Health for BIPOC

Support BIPOC Authors: Book Launch Celebration at NYU Kimmel Center

At NYU last week, Dr. Linda Lausell Bryant and Dr. Doris Chang had a joyful launch party for our book, “Transforming Careers in Mental Health for BIPOC: Strategies for Healing and Social Change” last week, co-sponsored by 6 wonderful student groups at NYU Silver School of Social Work. It was moving to hear chapter contributors Jeannette Pai-Espinosa, Amanda Mays, LCSW, Sophia Williams Kapten, Ph.D., and Nari Yoo, LSW discuss their motivation for participating in this book project, and lessons that they hope to impart to readers.

We provided opportunities for folks to share reflections on key themes from the book, including this powerful quote from Jeannette Pai-Espinosa:

“Shift your thinking to one of RADICAL ABUNDANCE. Operating from a center grounded in abundance opens the door to collective power, impact, and liberation, creating unlimited opportunities for leveraging shared knowledge, resources, connections, and more.”

During this season of love and light, what would it look like to embrace a mindset of radical abundance in your own work and life? How might sharing your knowledge, resources, and connections amplify the impact you might have in the world?

Thank you to all of our friends, family, colleagues, and the NYU Silver Faculty and students who came out to support us. We are especially grateful to Jasmine Yesenia Bryant, MSW, the Silver Asian Students Support Group, Mary Burns, LMSW, Gabriella McBride and Nari Yoo, LSW for being such wonderful thought partners and helping us to bring our vision to life.
